Vice-Chair Morgan Orozco Joins Lawrence Sustainability Advisory Board

"On Oct. 1, the City Commission asked Orozco to help steer what that action might look like by serving as a member on its Sustainability Advisory Board. The advisory board, which is one of many for the city, specifically focuses on actions the city can take to address climate change, reduce food waste and single use-plastics in town and help the city reach a 100% renewable energy goal."

Members of KSHSD Executive Board Attend Lawrence Climate Strike

On September 20th, KSHSD members attended a Lawrence climate strike. Co-Project Manager Lyle Griggs was quoted in an article for the Topeka TV station WIBW:
"Student Lyle Griggs said government can take steps like regulating fossils fuels and preserving existing environmental protection laws. He also explained why young people like him dedicated their time to the cause. 'My generation, more than anyone else, will face this, will experience this, and I have a visceral reaction to government inability to solve this problem and the pushback against the progress that has been made,' Griggs said." |

Allen County Chapter Makes the News

On July 11, 2019, the Iola Register published a story about the formation and efforts of the Allen County chapter of KSHSD. In the article, chapter leader Allie Utley discussed the challenges inherent in establishing such an organization in a mostly conservative community: “It’s hard to speak out on issues that are so progressive in such a conservative place,” said Utley.
Utley and the Allen County chapter have since received much publicity in the Register. |
